Artist Rod McIntosh
Eglinton Junior Cricket Club is honoured to receive this incredible painting.
Rod McIntosh is a proud Aboriginal artist from the Gomeroi people, whose Country spans northern New South Wales through to southern Queensland.
"As an Aboriginal artist, I feel privileged to share parts of my story through one of the world’s oldest continuous cultures. Art has always been part of my life. I grew up in a family of nine, surrounded by creativity, and I can still remember watching my mum and older brothers paint and draw. Their talent inspired my own artistic journey from a very young age.
Over the years I explored many different styles, but more recently my work has grown firmly toward my cultural contemporary style. My paintings now incorporate Gomeroi symbols, stories and meanings passed down to me by my mother and other Elders.
I continue to learn about my culture every day, and I draw constant inspiration from nature, its shapes, colours and patterns often find their way into my work as I blend them with my cultural style."
The Hammerhead painting symbolises two interconnected elements:
• The Hammerheads — representing the children of the Eglinton Cricket Club, whose energy and dedication embody the club’s future
• The Ocean Current — expressing the unifying spirit of cricket, a guiding force that draws individuals together in shared purpose and community
Go Hammerheads!
